Legislation

The Oireachtas (Ministerial and Parliamentary Offices) (Amendment) Act 2014 (the Parliamentary Activities Allowance Act) was enacted on 1 July 2014.

Purpose of the Act

The legislation provides for an annual allowance to be paid to party leaders and independent members of the Oireachtas to cover expenses that arise from parliamentary activities.

Every year the party leaders and Independents must tell the Commission, which oversees the Act, how they spend this allowance. We review the disclosures to make sure the allowance is spent on eligible expenses.
